Access to the Father: Boldly Coming to Him

Dr. Micah Mitchell

When Jesus died on the cross, something miraculous happened—the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom. This wasn’t just a dramatic moment; it was a declaration that the separation between God and humanity was removed forever. Through Jesus, access to the Father has been fully granted. There’s no barrier, no restrictions, and no limitations.

Hebrews 4:16 captures this truth perfectly:
“Therefore let’s approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help at the time of our need.”

Access to the Father is a gift, not something we earn or achieve. It’s been freely given through the finished work of Jesus on the cross. This means we don’t approach God as strangers, outsiders, or people trying to measure up—we come as sons and daughters, fully loved and accepted. The enemy loves to lie to us, whispering shame, guilt, and condemnation into our hearts. He wants us to believe that we’re unworthy to come before God, especially when we’ve fallen short or disobeyed. But the truth is, God’s invitation to approach Him is never based on our performance—it’s rooted in His love.

When we sin, the enemy says, “Run away.” God says, “Come to Me.”
When we feel guilt, the enemy says, “Hide.” God says, “Let Me cover you.”
When we’re ashamed, the enemy says, “You’re not good enough.” God says, “You’re Mine.”

Romans 8:1 reminds us:
“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”

There’s no condemnation in God’s presence, only mercy and grace. Even when we’ve failed, He calls us to come boldly before Him, knowing that His love is greater than our mistakes. When we approach God, we receive mercy and find grace. Mercy is His compassion that lifts us when we fall, and grace is His empowering presence that equips us to keep moving forward. These aren’t distant or abstract ideas—they’re real, tangible gifts that meet us exactly where we are.

Mercy is for when we feel weak, overwhelmed, or unworthy. It’s God’s way of saying, “I see you, I love you, and I’m here to restore you.” Grace is what strengthens us, giving us the ability to live boldly, walk in victory, and fulfill His purpose. It’s not something we deserve; it’s something He freely gives because of His great love for us. God’s help is always timely, coming exactly when we need it most. He’s never late, and He’s never indifferent. He meets us at the intersection of our need and His provision, reminding us that we are never alone.

This does not mean we sin and walk actively in sin. The grace and mercy of God will only take us so far in our lives. That is why it is about our heart and the position of our heart. God’s Word instructs us to give, tithe, pray without ceasing, and study the Word because these actions position our hearts toward Him. It takes faith to walk in these things and reap the blessings they bring.

There is no reason to avoid God’s presence. The veil has been torn, and His arms are open wide. Whatever you’re carrying—guilt, shame, fear, or doubt—leave it behind and come to Him. These things are part of the spirit of heaviness, and that is why we have praise. When we praise, this heaviness lifts. DON’T LET THE ENEMY STOP YOU FROM WORSHIPING OR PRAISING. It is in His presence that everything changes. The enemy will try everything to keep you from spending time with the Lord. He may try to convince you that you’re disqualified, but the truth is, God’s love qualifies you.

You were created for this kind of access. God longs for you to draw near, not out of obligation, but because He loves to be with you. You are His child, His masterpiece, and His joy. Nothing you’ve done or will ever do can separate you from that love.

Let this truth take root in your heart: you have full access to the Father. You can come boldly to His throne, knowing that you’ll receive mercy, grace, and perfectly timed help. There is no condemnation, no rejection, and no reason to stay away. God isn’t distant or waiting for you to prove yourself—He’s calling you closer, saying, “You are Mine.” Whether you’re celebrating, struggling, or searching, His throne is a place of refuge, restoration, and renewal. Step into His presence with confidence. Leave behind the lies of shame and guilt. Receive His mercy, discover His grace, and rest in the truth that you are fully loved and fully accepted.
