Wait, I’m Stuck! – Day 4: When Disappointment Shuts You Down

Dr. Micah Mitchell

Let’s talk about something we don’t like to admit:

You trusted God… and it didn’t turn out the way you thought it would.

You obeyed. You prayed. You believed. You even put yourself out there.

And then—nothing.

No breakthrough.

No answer.

No “suddenly.”

Just silence. Just closed doors. Just pain.

And now it feels like faith costs more than you expected.

Now you find yourself questioning not just what happened—but if you even heard God right in the first place.

And deep down, you’re wondering:

“If I believe again… will I be let down again?”

This is what disappointment does.

It makes you hesitant. Cautious. Afraid to expect too much, too soon.

It doesn’t just hit your emotions—it shakes your theology.

Disappointment Isn’t the End—It’s the Beginning of a Shift in Perspective

Disappointment itself isn’t the danger.

It’s what we do with it that determines whether we get stuck.

If you don’t process it properly, it becomes a stronghold in your heart.

It’ll cause you to lower your expectations and call it “wisdom”

when really, it’s fear dressed in spiritual language.

But here’s the truth:

God never asked you to lower your faith to match your last disappointment.

He’s asking you to trust Him again—fully.

But here’s what I’ve learned over the years:

Disappointment can bruise your heart, but it doesn’t have to break your spirit.

The thing is, when you walk with the Holy Spirit, you’re never moving backwards.

Even when it doesn’t work out the way you hoped—you gained something.

You gained wisdom. You gained perspective. You gained faith.

Even in the loss, there’s a lesson.

I always ask myself:

What did I learn? Where did I grow? How did I see God show up, even if it wasn’t how I expected?

I ask the Lord to show me the moments of joy and the small victories I may have overlooked—

because that’s how you walk through disappointment and come out without the evidence of what tried to break you.

You’re coming out wiser, stronger, and more focused than ever.

The Fire Didn’t Burn Them—It Refined Them

Let’s talk about the Hebrew boys—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.

They stood in bold faith, believing God would deliver them.

And He did—but not by keeping them out of the fire.

He delivered them in the fire.

He didn’t stop the flames.

He stepped into them.

When they came out, the Bible says:

“There was no smell of smoke on them.” (Daniel 3:27)

That’s what I believe for you.

You might’ve been through a fire of disappointment,

but you’re not going to smell like smoke when you come out.

You’re not going to carry bitterness, offense, or fear into the next season.

You’re going to carry wisdom, clarity, and faith that’s been proven in the heat.

Prayer + Decree

Father, I give You the places that didn’t turn out the way I hoped.

I release disappointment, and I receive fresh strength.

I choose to believe again. I choose to move forward.

I declare that this is not the end. My story is not over.

I’m not stuck—I’m healing. I’m learning. I’m rising.

And I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. (Psalm 27:13)

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
